Moving up in the world (TWP Update September 2022)

About four months ago we had a really good idea to move business premises.

This sounds straightforward; I mean its not a massive change, just a move of building, right?

We were content in our old office, but we needed to grow so the change was inevitable and exciting - a growing work family in a new home. We had become a little snug but had got use to it - who is it that says, “everything changes but the day to day stays the same?" Looking back lots of changes had happened and we had just adapted, the status quo remained the same.

When you change something or when something changes you get a chance to really look at what you want but we often don’t take this opportunity and therefore change but stay the same. We decided to embrace the opportunity and in doing it we’ve made some huge discoveries. Simple things like extra payments that were no longer needed, we changed our energy supplier and even bought new furniture - including comfier chairs, much to our team’s joy!

If you are wondering where this is going, don’t worry!

You see our discoveries got me thinking about reviewing our lives and how infrequently we do it, even though things change daily without us seeming to notice. I once met a lady who told me that she had made her Will in 1974 but had never updated it despite having been married 3 times! Since marriage invalidates a Will, she actually didn’t have a Will. Through all those changes in relationships, accommodation, income and not to mention the array of in-laws that came and went, there is no way the lady was in the same situation emotionally or financially, yet she had never reviewed such an important document. More importantly she had never thought it necessary.

People ask when should I review my Will? Well let’s start by saying regularly and by regularly, I mean every 2 or 3 years. You should review your Will when you move, change your job, change your relationship or when a baby is born, plus when somebody dies. Your Will is about family and assets so if ever they change - review your will. When we contact people for reviews we often hear “I am ok, nothing has changed” yet when we sit down and actually chat through their family, their life and their wants and desires in the same way we first did, there are often lots of little changes that have happened without them even realising because individually they were so small.

When we look back at the beginning of the year, we were perfectly happy in our business premises yet now we’re settling into our brand-new offices. We have had our work life reviewed and we feel better for it.

Our new office space is at:
